I use to also buy slightly used bulbs from reefers selling them at 4-5 months usage. After a while I realized that it's kind of stupid because lighting is one of the lifelines of your reef tank. I know guys that were buying no name 10K SE bulbs off of ebay and they looked greenish when fired on. (that was a total waste of money)

So as Jim said, there is no skimping on lighting. Besides with any unknown or untested bulb, you chance bleaching out your corals or causing an irreversible nuissance algae outbreak.

Thanks for the info,
I guess the other question would be: what bulb would you guys suggest? - I have 175W Metal halide currently running an old aqualine 10K bulb off a cheap advance ballast- I have noticed a decrease in my zoo's colour so i guess its time to get a new one
So what bulbs would you suggest and where can i get it without breaking the bank?
I would really appreciate your advice
Aaron
