Enough already, I've been absolutely inundated with PM's, RB's, e-mails, unsolicited phone calls, and even a few unannounced appearances at my place of work. I never knew there was such a clamoring amongst the MR rank and file for the identity of our Swap Speakers!!!!
I can't take it any more so here you go you hungry info seeking vultures:
Our first speaker is CHRISTINE WILLIAMS who will be speaking on :
When Aquariums Attack--Bites, Stings, Cuts, Infections and other Unfortunate Events ( and what to do).
Christine Williams started keeping fish while she was still a fetus. While the aqueous environment did lend itself to the hobby, it limited her to freshwater species, and so she decided to be born several weeks early. Through sign language she demanded that her parents convert her crib into a reef aquarium and thus started her illustrious career in marine ornamentals. After completing her studies in biochemistry and molecular microbiology she went to work at “Animal ER” where unfortunately she was not filmed for the Animal Planet channel (though her feet did make a cameo during a rescue segment). Currently she is the head of the Industrial Marine Microbiology team for her division of a “very large international chemical company,” where she spends her days mixing chemicals, microorganisms and plankton together and seeing if they will A) explode, B) glow in the dark, or C) make a good salsa. In order to further her skills she is also a graduate student at Stony Brook University's School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
Next we have LESLIE HARRIS who will be speaking on:
" Life Styles of the Wet and Spineless" a talk that is chock full of fun facts about marine worms, molluscs, echinoderms and other invertebrates---- stuff like who eats who, symbiotic relationships, & of course invert sex!!! You'd be surprised what might be going on in the comfy confines of your own aquaria!
Leslie Harris is a certifiable worm obsessive, invert addict and photographer. Her day job is as collections manager of the AHF Polychaete Collection at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. At nights she is either doing consulting work (polychaete taxonomy & ecology for a variety of studies), catching up on past studies or editing photos. She also travels a lot to weird and wonderful places in search of small strange inverts to photograph, study and marvel at. " I can't get enough information & pictures of live animals. I started out as moderator of critter id sections on www.wetpixel.com and www.digitaldiver.net & other UW boards. Then I went to a few reef boards & realized that observant reefers were seeing invert behavior & feeding that was unknown to academics. That did it! I can't keep my mouth shut when it comes to identification. and thus I was asked to become part of Team RC, on Reef Central. I don't own an aquarium, but very much like that fact that all of you do."
We are very excited to be able to bring these two wonderfully knowledgeable and entertaining women to the MR community. As a side note, this is very likely the first time in the history of our hobby that an all women speaker line-up is being presented and for that fact alone, I am personally very proud.
Now stop bugging me, attend the lectures, and let your insatiable enthusiasm for all things educational spill into this thread.
