Almost got burned really bad when I heater exploded.. I noticed I left the window open and the tank temp said 76.4.. Took the heater out as I always do to plug it in to another receptacle, as the channels keep dieing on controllers for me... Pugged it in and poof looked like I was welding in my living room.. Burn marks on my t shirt, mind you I was holding the heater waiting for it to warm up... I little shaken I must admit,,,lmao..Now...
This a routine check for me.. From now on I'll be throwing my welding blanket over the heater before I test them..

either way tobin it could have been worse. the heater was still wet wasn't it? you could have been electrocuted.

I'm not judging the finnex heater since I've heard good things about them, but your lucking it was metal and not glass. seems like your having problems all around.take a step back and a few moments and reevaluate the system as a whole. If you need any help give me a call.

I have heard of heaters causing a lot of problems and wondering if there are heat exchangers for aquariums.

The heater would be submerged in water contained in a glass cylinder that would transfer heat to the aquarium water. That way, in case of malfunction, the tank would not affected.

Hey Alex I'm a trooper,,lol.. That DC8 went out, I bought a new one.. The ph probes went out, I bought 2 new ones of them was way over due and the other was only about 4 months old... Premium Aquatics told me they only last about that long,,,,,, yeah I'll be shopping there again,,lmao.. The coral colors are good and the 4 new powder browns are actually having no problems with each other, my 2 atalantic blues are keeping them busy.. All in all if I wasn't as diligent with m y system I could have had 2 tank crashes in less than 4 months.. Damn I'm good,,lol.. My rainbow milli showing signs of coloring up well.. The rouge milli getting red coralites already.. The system is strong, the controler I may have to step my game up and get a Profilux controller.. At least they back their stuff.. I gave up glass heaters a while ago, I think I may be looking into a in line heater next..

Tobin,

Is the heater 800W b/c it said titanium 800? The DC8 cannot handle anything more than 5amp per outlet. I have my 500W plugged into a x-10 appliance module instead. This reminds me to check my heater when I get home today.
