I had a thread a few weeks back about picking a new skimmer for my 58g mixed reef. I ended up going with the Vertex IN-80.

Initial reaction was great. Build quality is great, and it was easy to setup.

Ill get picks up later. I have iphone pics ready to go, but for some reason i cant load them on here.

My question is, when adjusting the water level, or foam level in the skimmer, what is the optimal level?

Right now i have it so the froth or foam in right up to the top of the skimmer reaction chamber. The top inch of foam in brown and slowly bubbling over into the collection cup. If anybody else has one of these skimmers, i would love to know what level you keep the water/foam at.

PIcs to come!

if u shine a light into the body of the skimmer i have the bubbles set right where the neck starts to straighten, put skimmer in 8" of depth, and let it break in. awesome skimmer though, i have the 180

Take the air tube off the silencer, you will need to re-adjust level but that silense dampens the air pull, foam rising will be more stable as well, think i have mine in 7" , how do you have the outlet pipe faced ? Is it angled ? Submersed ?

let the top of the drain maybe 1/4 above water line, will help keep bubbles down and give less back pressure, for me the pump is pretty silent without using the silencer, but it also restrict amount of air being sucked in
