no, look at Michael Sterns example, changing that one pump makes a huge difference.

Not to hurt his feelings.. Amp master pumps are AMP EATERS, they don't run per spec and can generate quite a bit of heat in the stand.

Red Dragon is the way to go for efficiency if you can layout the $$..

Please... When you see your $400+ elec bill compared to someone elses $200 bill that has the same size tank and necessary equipment, you will crap your pants. Just moving my lighting scheme from 250w halide to 400 watters cost me $46 extra a month then it doesn't seem like a small jump. The more light the more heat the more equipment it takes to keep the tank stable. Chillers and fans and extras.... It all adds up. If you start planning from the beginning you wont have to worry much.

While wattage on pumps is obviously important, how much heat they transfer is also very important. It doesn't matter how low the wattage on (or how quiet) a pump is if it will heat the tank so much that you need a chiller to come on. Also, UV's add a lot of heat to the tank.

I just routed groves into the marinaboard and used an azoo irrigator to point the crap in the right direction.

I'm thought about that, but want something external.. I'm thinking of spilting the output into three or four output. Then add some kind of nozzle on it so it flatten the direct flow and make it stronger and wider..

HEY HEY There are some effecient things about my tank. I only run my halides for 3 hrs per day, I use tunze streams for flow, and my return pump is 140 watts.

BUT my skimmer pump runs on 290watts and my chiller does kick on quite a bit

my new tank spec for lower wattage reef right now is a 40 gallon with 4 T-5s and a 38 watt skimmer. Circulation is provided by two maxijets so it's around 200 watts of power.
if this works out for SPS i be very very happy LOL.
