I'm thinking of starting a nem/clown species tank. Will either have BTAs or LTA's. Not sure of that yet... I've got most everything thought out/planned, but there's one area I'd like some opinions/suggestions/input on.

...In the past I've had nem's move, and know this is a common occurrence. I recently had to trade my beautiful purple LTA because it could not find a happy place and I have Tunze powerheads in the tank. Figured it was better to trade away than risk losing a beautiful animal.

About a year ago, my first 'nem decided it wasn't happy where it was and moved itself right into a powerhead. Completely clouded my whole tank. I lost a few corals and (obviously) the 'nem.

That said.. this species tank will need to be different. I'm thinking of a cube tank, and would like to find a way to help prevent the above from happening.

Ideally, I'd like to use powerheads (like Vortechs) and cover them up somehow. Possibly using acrylic of some sort. Also, the idea of a closed loop or wavebox isn't out of the question. Great circulation and movement is definitely important here.

So, at this point, what are the ideas? (Focusing on equipment, etc not on keeping water quality high, which I'll be working on as well.)

Thanks in advance!

nothing you can do will keep them out of a power head if they go that way. or even running a closed loop because you u still have a suction side, ive got 10 nems in my tank with 2 vortech's, what equiptment are you trying to focus on ?

I'm not sure really.. I have a few ideas:

-I might want to run Vortechs and somehow cover them up (like with those 'silly' foam pads)

-Or use a pair of Tunze 6055's and have a portion of the back wall of the tank covered with a piece of black acrylic.. with small intake slits and holes drilled for the output of the Tunze's..

-Possibly an acrylic wall with a pump like an Eheim or something for a closed loop setup.

Maybe a wavebox?

wavebox no unless big tank. like i said no way to guarentee them not getting sucked in, even with foam pads they will get pulled into them and ripped apart as well, get a carpet nem it wont wonder aroud but will eat fish, or a seabea they dont really wonder tank

hmm.. I've read that the sand dwelling 'nems like haddonis or LTA's dont move as much either. why are you saying that the wavebox is a no unless it's a large tank? (Just curious, not arguing with you.)

wavebox will weaken any seams and even faster if in a smaller tank because waves will be stronger, plus they arent quiet at all and a nem canget sucked into it as well,
