Problem with algae

I have a friend who has a very large reef tank. Currently having trouble with algae and some fish dying. Any suggestions as to what they need to be checking for? Thanks is advance.

You are going to have to give a lot more information if you want meaningful help. It might be better to have your friend post because it will require knowledge of his tank. Start with the basics,

tank size (in gallons)
Water parameters (what test kits you are using, what you are testing for)
Filtration system,
LIghting,
Dosing
does your friend use RODI water
bioload (what fish are in the tank)
how old is the tank?

There is more but that should get you started. Good luck.

Tim where from in ohio ? from col origanally, what are his water parameterss ? whats he using to test water ? is he using a ro/di unit to make water ? running phosban and or carbon ?
