I have my buddys C02 tank and the welding place near me wants to exchange for a beat up tank. They don't fill there. His tank looks brand new that he is leanding me. Before I did this maybe there is a place that fills on the spot.
Looking for close by my house. South shore of Long Island?
Also I have my own C02 tank but was not stamped they told me and the welding place wanted $80 bucks for used certified tank filled.
They want $12 for a exchange refill tank thats certified

How do I know if a tank is certifed?????

I believe it's stamped into the part the regulator would screw onto, but I can't recall.

Regardless, if a tank hasn't been certified -- meaning that it's passed pressure tests and can be reasonably relied upon not to explode -- most places will refuse to fill it, particularly larger ones.

You can get tanks certified; I know a friend had to get a tank of his recertified for his paintball gun.

Anyway, welding supply, beer distributors, paintball supply, restaurant supply, and possibly places that refill fire extinguishers are probably your best bet.

There will be a date stamped on the tank in MM:YY format

The hydro is good for 5 years on a CO2 tank. Once it's out of date NOWHERE will fill it. It's a $10,000 fine if they get caught. The easiest way is to swap it out. Some places just tack on the test fee to the swap, other places will send it away and return your tank.

I swap my tanks out at a welding shop. If you ask the guy nicely, they will search for a decent looking tank. If you don't ask, they just bring you whatever.

High Velocity Paintball fills tanks. I think I paid $10 for a 5# refill. Give them a call.
