Hello fellow reefers. I just recently changed out my return pump and installed a Reeflow Dart. All looks good but I can?t seem to get it to stop leaking from the treads of the return/supply. Has this happened to anyone else? I used Teflon tape and I still can?t seem to get it to stop. Does anyone use something else besides Teflon tape?

It has worked for me in the past but I?m not having any luck with this pump. Any input will be helpful. Thanks, Danny.

Danny, are you sure the leak is coming from the discharge port? Is it possibly coming from one of the pvc fittings above the discharge and is just running down the pipe to the pump?

How many 'revolutions' are you wrapping around the threads with the teflon tape? You should be wrapping it 8-9 full revolutions.

I’m definitely sure it’s coming from the threads on the pump. I don’t remember how many times I went around with the Teflon tape. I was going to see if salt creep would do it by this weekend. If not I’ll just have to take it apart again and give it another try.

As for the Teflon paste, would that be considered reef safe? Would it leach anything into the water? This was suggested to me by someone at Reeflow.

No worries about the paste being reef safe. The primary ingredient is no different than the tape, Teflon.

BTW, if the leak is just a very slow drip, like one drip per minute or two, then a couple of weeks of salt creep could very easily seal the deal. If it's much faster than a drip per minute or two, I think you'd have to re-plumb the pump.

I had the same thing with my dart. The salt plugged it in a week. Skimmerman there is something unsettling about the though of sewing thread sealing up a leak in a hydrolic brake system. I hope you didnt use duct tape to fix the emergency brake cable.:splitspin

actually, I think that reeflo actually says to not use teflon tape, and to use the paste

Yet another problem, it seems that it’s also leaking from the seals on the shaft that are connected to the Volute side. Is this normal? I’m not too happy with this pump....
