sump light question

i just built my 20g sump...i know that your suppose to put some sort of light on top...does any one know what kinda lighting fixture i have to get? i want something cheap...preferable somethign i can just pick up from Home Depot...thanks

u can use some sort of light that dont promote algae. something to do with the color intensity. theres someone here that would no better then me.

any light would do if it's just a sump. There's some bulbs at HD that are the right color spectrum. do a search for 'Lights of America' or "loa" on reefs.org, and you'll see lots of threads.

If you're planning on using it as a fuge as well, you'll WANT the algea growth. I actually use old PC bulbs over mine. Once they shift color temp they're no good for the tank, but they're great for the fuge.

you think i can use a reg florcent fixture with a coral life bulb?

you could, if you have one lying around. the bulbs are cheap from HD, and you can use any clip on light base.

Bulb at HD.

The lights of America bulb is about $10 at HD and the base is about $5.
For $15 you can have a great light for your fuge.

Yep, that was my first refuge light. It works pretty good.
