does the blue tint on moonlights have any relation to coral growth or is it just for aesthetics.

im asking because i made a diy moonlight and the leds i used came with 5 or 6 different colors. under the purple setting, some of the corals really gave a surprisingly nice glow different from the normal blue tint.

Some say simulated moonlight helps encourage spawning events however I would imagine the evidence is anecdotal and difficult to prove.

I doubt the color makes a difference as long as it's not too bright

It depends entirely on the frequency of the specific light source and its intensity. If its between around 420-450nm then it will be accessible for some photosynthesis (as are other frequancies above this range), but the intensity with moon lights tied with a typically narrowed frequency range will be so so low that the coral wont be getting anywhere near its 100% photosaturation point where input energy is greater than the corals requirements to fullfill basic biological function. growth comes from input energy and additional nutrients (active feeding) in exess of the minimum input requirements after basic function.

so in essence, no, you wont get any growth as such becouse you dont have enough intensity, but the light (what little there is) is still 'usable' if it falls within the photosynthetic ranges applicable.

Sorry for the sort of yes/no answer.
