i have had my euroreef skimmer now for around 2 years.its a great skimmer does a fantastic job.when i use to shut it off to do maintenece i would plug it in and it would go right back to doing its thing.now for the last 2 months it just fills up with water and i have to blow into the airline to get it to start .what is the cause of this.i was thinking the needle wheel in the sedra is the cause of it.

Could be several factors:

1. Salt Creap - clean the airline with hot water.

2. Calcium build up - to soak pump/impellear in vinegar solution 2/1 water to vinegar for a few hours to get the calcium off.

Please don't suggest people to buy stuff if you can't get to the root cause first. Impellers are really expensive.

Take off the air hose and wash it with hot water. The salt builds up in there. If it is pumping water I don't think it has anything to do with the impeller

Nothing wrong with having an extra impeller lying around in case something like this happens ... maybe that's just mea ... $40 (with shipping) for that security ... I don't know ... Duke says he cleans it routinely at that ... and he is still having this problem.

I had the same problem on my Sedra 3500 and couldn't seem to figure it out. I soaked the pump and impeller and cleaned the line, it would work fine for a few days and then go back to pushing a low volume and little to no bubbles. I modded my impeller with fish line and that didn't seem to be the problem as the pump worked fine for months. To be honest, I finally just got fustrated and bought a mag5 with the venturi option...which is giving me a lot more bubbles and foam then the Sedra would. I did have to get some pipe fittings from Home Depot for the pump to make it work

check the little hole and check the magnet on the impeller for a small hair line crack, it will start to swell over time it happened to me look at this pic
