Thought I might share with you guys my experience with my first MH addition. I used to have one 216w Perfecto fixture (one large reflector for 4 bulbs) stretching across both halved sections of my 55 gallon. In the left half I have encrusting Porites corals with Xmas Feather Dusters, the right half is a macro fuge. The Porites and worms seemed to be doing ok but after 6 months I noticed slow growth in one area but recession and color loss in others, especially the closer you came to the ground.
3 days after I purchased Chief's 250w Sunpod and Aaron's brand new 10k XM bulb, not only is the light crisp and bright but the response on these encrusting corals is amazing. Coloration, polyp extension and growth has exceeded my expectations. Now the surrounding and invasive xenias I had in there appear to be regressing and new tissue seems to be expanding like colored candle wax flowing over a rock. Not to mention that tranquil shimmer effect ya get with MHs.
