Hi,

I'm in week 2 of cycling my 30g tank, and I'm starting to get a pretty bad brown algae bloom. There's no livestock in the tank other than LR, LS and some hitchhiker mushrooms. Im running a skimmer and a small fuge with a little bit of algae (which may or may not be dead). The salinity is a bit high- 1.027, but I heard that lower, not higher, salinity causes algae. What should I do, if anything?

It is a natural part of your cycle. You should let it go and when the tank is finished with the cycle you can add a clean up crew and they will take care of it.

Bring your salt down to 1.026, also on the algae it norm for a new cycled tank. in general give it 4-6 weeks and like Chiefmcfuz said add the cleaning crew then. Just my $.02
