Hi guys. I've got two questions I'd like your views on.

1. For those who use sumps but don't use filter socks - what do you use for mechanical filtration? I've had to swap filter socks on my overflow almost once weekly or else the sock begins to overflow.

2. I know that with a drilled tank you don't have to worry about losing the siphon, but other than that is there any functional advantage over a hob overflow?

Thanks.

I dont use anything for mechanical filtration. I have a 75RR with a 20 sump that has a choke point where all the water goes through, then opens into a larger area that slows the flow down and loses a lot of particulates over rock rubble and a DSB.
My water would not be considered gin clear but then neither are ocean reefs.
And, Im not changing/cleaning filter socks regularly.
But it is amazing how clear some tanks get.
