I am using the Typhoon III extreme, the water was reading 0 TDS on the way out and with a handheld TDS meter. I poured it into a tank with sand and some rock that was dry for a very long time, I rinsed both before putting in tank, now right before adding salt the water reads 154 TDS is this normal?

ok first ?
where did u get these rocks from?(if used before and dried out. you should cure them some times rock can have allot of ammonia and po4 in them. so i would honestly cure them)
is the sand used? and what kind of sand is it?

you should do the rinsing and cleaning in a 5g bucket or some kind of container like it.

and finally is ok that it reads.. it reads that b/c sand and rock are not pure

sounds like either the rock/sand was filthy, or the TDS meter is broken. Since you had a double 0 when it was first made, you know it was clean prior to going into tank with rocks.

I would make more RO/DI, and see if your get the double 0 on both TDS and Hand Held TDS, if so, the hand held is working properly, that means your dead rock was very dirty(Not dirty as in dirt, just random dead stuff and sand)

I would do water changes

I am using my best opinion on this, and have no experience on this situation
