Ok I got a mag test kit and my mag is low 900 . I know it got to be at 1320 i belive but my alk is at 10 and my cal is a little high 500 . I thought if my mag is low i wouldnt have high cal right ?. Well what do you guys think and should i raise the mag to were it should be or leave it alone. I have the kentmairne tech m will his work?.

What are you dosing that your CA is 500? (sure it isn't 500+?)
How old is the tank?


IF you are going to try & raise the MG, it needs to be done SLOWLY over a number of days. The directions should be on the bottle, follow them carefully.

As Kathy said, please don't attempt to raise the Mg level all at once. Going from 900 to 1350 could actually take a week to 10 days.

Do you know what your Ca level was before you started dosing?..AND how much Ca your corals are using?

That is how you figure out how much to dose.

Best let it level off - as in dose nothing for a while, do a few water changes. AFTER that test all 3 - Ca, Alk & Mg - then test them 3 days later and see which if any are dropping. THAT is what you try to compensate for when you are dosing.
Otherwise all you do is throw off the levels and that makes for a not stable tank ;)
