Sorry for the wrong forum post. A surface skimmer that small will not handle a 90. Yes, I mean a film. Part of the problem is an in tank fuge which is an algae magnet.
What type of filtration you using? Is the waters surface rippling? Usually you only see the film on a calm surface. You could build or buy a skimmer box and put the outflow to your filtration/skimmer in it. They are pretty easy to make and you can buy the material from Home Depot for under 30$
if its an Oily film is from the skimmer not doing its job efficiently maybe it can be tweaked.
If it more of a organic cloudy film it is from decaying matter in the tank look for dead creatures.
Also you need to figure out why it is staying on the surface and not going into the overflow. May need a PH directed at the surface toward the overflow to break it up and send it in that direction.
Skimmer is doing a great job- skimming very dry. Its not organic looking more surface scum. I may take a MJ 1200 and point it at the surface to agitate things a bit more, even a koralia 1. Thoughts?
I have 2 koralia 2 pointing at the surface of my 120 I got a small amount of scum at the surface when one died and a new one was being shipped. Any constant agitation of the surface will not let it form.
I would try pointing the return output nozzle directly at the surface, and see if you can raise at least one of the MP40w's closer to the water surface.
I have a 110 with a MP40 on the side closest to the overflow. Even with the dual return nozzles pointed upward I was still getting the surface scum on the side of the tank opposite the MP40. I had a spare Koralia 4 that I used to agitate the surface and has been working great so far. As others have said, and IMO you need to have a flow that will break the surface of the water.
And I agree...making waves works (short pulse setting) but not everything in tank likes it and the sound it makes gets annoying too .
