I just set my tank up, again. It's been over a year since she was last wet.

The tank is pretty quiet. The durso and sump have a little gurgle, but it's bearable.

The skimmer vibrates. It's driving me nuts! It's in the pump, because if I lift the skimmer so that it is suspended, the noise doesn't get any quieter. Do I have a defective Sicce pump? The skimmer only ran for a few weeks when I first got is (some time in 2008). I don't remember is being this loud!

Tonight I will disassemble the pump and look for clues.

Any one else have a similar issue or any possible solutions? :hairy:

I once put a thin sponge underneath a loud skimmer. That seemed to do the trick until I eventually upgraded the skimmer.

i have the same skimmer and it definitely vibrates. im not sure how loud is loud for you, but its noticeable when standing next to tank. i bought egg crate, put rubber mouse pad on top and all that under the skimmer. It reduced noise by a lot.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I have a 1/2" foam pad under my sump and a silicone sheet under the skimmer. All the other pumps in my tank are near silent.

Even with the pump off of the sump, it's still hums REAL loud.

I'd hate to replace the pump to find that this is just how loud this skimmer is.

To put it in perspective. It's way louder than my Remora.

Can I use any kind of Mouse pad?

Mouse pads are neoprene/rubber. I would be worried about the printing on top more than anything.

You can also use foam tiles (like for kid's play rooms). They are non-toxic closed cell foam/rubber. I got 4X 2'X2' tiles for $15 @ home depot.

I used 100% silicone pot holders for in the sump.
