I believe it's rated for 150 gallons, so I would still use it just to hold media(carbon). It also depends on your stocking of fish. More info would be nice so we can assist you. Is this the only filtration system your using? Are you running a protein skimmer? What kinds of fish? Is it a new setup, old setup? You may want to look into a sump for your setup and a protein skimmer that can handle a decent bioload.

Well right now I dont have any fish in my set up. Just live rock. I purchased everything from someone who had it established but was moving. I did have to go and do almost a full water change. It came with a protein skimmer as well.

As far as a sump, my fear is, the complete set up weight and the weight of adding the sump. I don't know how much the floors can hold, just moved into a new apartment. The guy has zero idea of how much the floor can take, soooo basically im playing it safe and holding off on a sump. Unless it can hold a SUPER SMALL SUMP, on a 110g. But I dont think its possible. OR IS IT?

Roughly about 880lbs of water in your 110. Now add X amount of lbs for LR to that, and about 15 -25lbs for your stand(depends on stand). That should give you an idea of weight. If unsure maybe ask a super if you live in a building with one. Well it seems that you already have it running since you stated you did a water change already. LOL!! So I'm sure your floor will support the weight. Another way to determine... NOT FOOL PROOF, is walking heavely by the tank and seeing if the water ripples alot on top. Not saying to stomp your feet!! : ) That will give you an idea as well. YES possible. As I stated, try looking into a sump, or as reefman stated a wet/dry (dry/wet)trickle filter. Relatively inexpensive for a used one, it's made out of acrylic(spelling may be off)it's lite and not that heavy when filled up. I believe that would be your best bet.
+1 reefman.

for a while i used a canister filter as a huge carbon holder and to make some additional water movement... kind of like a reactor and a powerhead in one.. then i got the real thing.. i know from experience i have had nitrate problems using one as a filter for a marine tank.. sump is the way to go..
