black out for presumably 10 hours...i proceeded to make flow by pushing up and down with a plastic container for about an hour. Power came back at the end of that hour.

also siphon sucking is nasty LOL.

Recently, my ballast for jbj nano blew...now my tank is by the window to get light as I wait for new lights. Yes, cleaning it often and yes heater is on...what an annoyance.

First was when my 125 gallon blew a seam. That was trumped by my basement flooding with sewage during the 2007 NorEaster. I had temprary tanks, containers and buckets all over my house for a month while I fixed the basement.

Choking on the water coming out of the syphon, really badly, good thing I did not drown because my girlfreind was laughing her ass off. I have also been shocked several times.

Used GEII Silicone to install sump baffles. Didnt notice the mildew resistent on the label and nuked the entire tank for 15 hours. After a crazy emergency breakdown and set back up, only lost 3 corals. Still used all the equipment, sand and LR, but after days of soaking. Was 8 months ago and all has been fine.

Blackouts

tough to say which is the worst, here are the contenders:

1st blackout for two days a couple of years ago when most the northeast states went dark--computer backup was inadequate--lost a lot of corals, fish, and inverts.

2nd blackout--had the return pump hooked up to a power inverter plugged to my car which i left running the whole night--lost some acro's and what survived all browned out--a good friend took all the surviving acro's to his tank to color up--a couple of months later he sold his tank with my corals along with it. we're not talking any more.

3rd blackout for half a day--heater wire was frayed, exposed and tripped the circuit breaker to the equipment room--had vortechs on battery backups but temp went down to 72--lost some acro's and browned out again--the worst part was i got a shock when i put my hand in the refugium!!!!

did i mention blackout sux????

Brine Shrimp Spillage/Return Hose Burst

I ordered 5 gallons worth of live brine shrimp online. Package arrived late so I didnt wait for help putting it into my 10 gal tank. I picked up plastic bag w/shrimp & it burst all over the floor. In the french drains, on the carpet, on the floor & walls. It got everywhere. It frickin stunk.
The same night the hose blew off the return pump - water shooting all over. Reconnected it after another cleanup but pump was shot - (no backup pump). This happened during my first month in the hobby. I decided to give it one more try before tossing the whole setup. After this - smooth sailing (for the most part).

a month ago i noticed my 72 bow was acting up. algae started to grow, corals would not open up fully, fish seemed scared and fadded a bit yet my water par was fine. i was so confused and did water change after water change. i ended up finding out my pump sponge was sooooo clogged up that my tank was not even running. i felt the return pipe and barely any water was coming out. so my filter was not running on the tank for a good month or two. took the sponge off, smacked myself in the face and went walked away. no loses or coral death think god but still to this day battleing the fu***ng hair algae all over the rock. ro water is not getting rid of it and there is no such thing as a chemical to kill algae, tried it all, HAHAHA what an improvement! peice of crap let me tell ya....
