i just wanted to say hi to everyone, i live in greenpoint, brooklyn. i have been keeping a reef tank for about 1 year now. i have a 36 gallon bow with mostly zoos and mushrooms, all small colonies that i am waiting to grow out. a brain, some gsp and favites on the same rock, candy cane, and some feather dusters. i am not much into fish but i do have a clown, and i also have a coral banded shrimp as well. no hermits just snails

but i just wanted to say hi and i am trying to read through old posts as well to learn other things

Hi Jennie,

Welcome to Manhattan Reefs! I think you'll be happy with the amount of knowledge you'll find on the boards here. They're are some very talented reefers eager to give advice. If you have any questions or are looking to buy or sell livestock or equipment, don't hesitate to start a thread. If you ever get into SPS corals I'm sure we'll bump into each other one of these days ;)

take care,
Rich

4angel, vic, and solbby- thank you for the welcome

sean- i was actually planning to go this weekend. i have never been there but i only just found out about it
i have been driving to queens but i will hopefully be able to go check it out tomorrow or tuesday.

jackson-i want sps i am getting a 175 watt metal halide on tuesday that i have to retrofit into one of my existing fixtures, so we will see what happens with that. i wish i had the tools to build a hood for my bow, then i could just do it that way with no light leaks. i do want to get some sps. not a whole lot of it, i am more addicted to zoos and mushrooms but i want something to add some height to my tank, and i figure sps will do that for me

montipora digitata is fast growing and colorful. Given the right conditions you'll get plenty of height from them. A good softie alternative for height would be gorgonians (spelling?)

If you're interested in zoo's you might want to send Solbby and huerfan a PM. They are both zoo freaks and can probably hook you up with a sweet deal on very colorful zoos.

jennie,

Welcome to the site - as everyone mentioned, you will find some really nice poeple willig to help out and with very good experience.

If you ever decide to try digitata, I keep 5 different types of it in my tank. Consider it a welcome to hard corals free frag!

Enjoy the site and let us know if we can do anything to help

Also, you might want to check out my photogallery and in the DIY section, I have pictures of a step-by-step hood design for my 92 corner bow. Not 100% light-tight, but pretty darn close.

Again welcome.

Jennie, Welcome aboard! I'm in clinton hill, not to far away. I've got some shrooms and ricordias if you want some. I'm getting my tank back today, so by the end of the week, things should be settled down enough to see what I have. (I haven't seen the tank since October) I may also have other softie frags. We'll see!
