Electrical Work Being Done in a Few Weeks - YIKES

My house is getting an extremely much-needed electrical boost in a couple of weeks...and the power is going to be out approximately 6hrs...I know I need to have the heater and some sort of water circulation going. I have a 100W heater and a 29G biocube, so not much is needed, but what are my options here? I believe the electricity to the house is getting worked on (going from 120A to 200A or something) and a bunch of my outlets are getting changed (old two-prongs throughout the house)... do I have any hope here?

if you are using a good contractor he will have a generator or multiple generators.explain to him you need 1 for your aquarium.

Good suggestion Duke.

Perhaps you can borrow a battery back up from a local reefer to keep air & heat & circulation going.

OR - is there a neighboring house nearby that you can run a couple of extension cords from?

Good that you have time to plan! No reason it should have any impact on your tank with the proper precautions.

If you dont have access to a generator, and can not steal your neighbors electricity :idea: then I would suggest buying a battery operated air pump for circulation. You can keep the temperature in check by floating bags or plastic bottles of hot water in the tank.

The electrition should be able to run a separate circuit from the braker box to your tank with Romex cable until they are done.You might have to pay them to do it because they don't like extra work.

I will inquire about a generator...I dont think they'd be able to run a separate line...its a great distance and they are altering the electricity that is coming into the house.

I would go with the Battery Operated Air Pump. As for heat. I would probably get a big insulated box and tape some heatpacks to it and cover your entire tank with it. That sounds insane but for 6 hours it would work.

I'm a electrician sounds like a upgrade service I usually tap off the main lines to keep there refrigerator going so there shouldn't be a issue good luck

In case, you really is out of electricity for some time, a battery operated air pump is a VERY GOOD investment. The one I bought last year for keeping freshly caught grass shrimps, and acclimation of fish once a while, and transfer big big fish that I don't have a bag for, is still running as of last week using the same old 2 D size battery.
