Actually, you got me thinking. Does anyone know what effect on phosphates does running a diatom have on a reef tank. Obviously, a skimmer works 24 hours a day. The way the system 1 works, is you run it for a few hours once a week. Anyway, curious if someone has some knowledge if a diatom filter will lower phosphates.

Just for reference, you will find that most people do not run a diatom filter on a reef tank. On a fresh water tank, they are used more often. I know for me, I had a large bio load, and the diatom filter made a huge impact on cleaning the tank.

Chem I did that ---again--->>> The gasket was not sticking up high enough out of the channel it sits in to form a proper seal<<<---..... I did that you stick it in the pitcher get it charged let it run clear lower the pitcher viola>>>>> then sluuuurp....bubbles....diatom in tank......fine for a minute or so then.....sluuuuurp bubbles....diatom in tank. Started the syphon correctly with the lines running up with the filter at a lower level than the tank. Is a manufacturer defect in my eyes havent tried it since I did the silicone thing.

Yep some guys I've talked to run em every now and then just to polish their water for when company is comin over - hides laziness- hehe I just want to use it to get some particulate out of my water column but turns out some of it are actually pods so dont know if im gonna use it after all- went to clean out my mag float the other day that I keep at the water level and when I pulled it off it had a buch of pods crawling around in the velcro rows that scrape the glass so well see if I use it at all.
