Technically you don't need either one.
Strontium is already in your salt mix and Purple Up will boost your Ca levels to the point of possibly throwing all of your paramaters out of whack.
Coralline will grow just fine in a stable tank that is well maintained ..as long as there is a source of coralline already in there..as in a piece of L/R with some growing on it , or some shavings from a coralline encrusted rock.

Test kits..most prefer Salifert. Elso and Lamotte are popular & respected as well.

IMO API are fine for basic readings like ammonia, nitrite & nitrate & PH..tho many will disagree with that..lol

I recently started using tropic Marin test kits. I think they are a great "mid-grade" test kit.

Cheaper than Salifert and Elos. Better than API.

They might be. I just recently noticed them pop up in my LFS.

I got the kH kit for $10 and the nitrate kit for $15.

They were in line with the more expensive kits in a thread over on RC chemistry forum where he tested 5 or 6 different kits and compared the results.
