Well for some this may be an everyday occurrence but it was a first time for my tank. I noticed my Onyx clown has been taking interest in my frogspawn whether the FS likes it or not. So last night for the first time I see the clown circle around it and then pick up a few pieces of rock/sand where the FS is and spit it out somewhere else. Then he rips a little starfish of the rock that was getting a little too close to the FS and throws that out somewhere else too. Was amazing to see him cleaning area around the FS and especially ripping that starfish off! So cool. I should prob get him an anemone but for now the FS seems to be doing ok and its awesome to see that relationship.

Hey Dave I bought an anemone off Russ for my true percs- they didnt pay any attention to it for 3 weeks, then the male brushed against it and turned to look back like WOW! this thing isnt gonne kill me? NICE!! within an hour and a half the male was in the anemone but the female no matter how much the male would swim back and forth to almost encourage her she was like NO WAY!! After another hour or so I look again and they were both in and havent left for more than a minute or so since.

Russ did tell me though not to harp on it, sometimes they take hours sometimes they take months and sometimes they just never do take to the nem. I guess I got lucky,
but top I would seem to think that if hes trying to host/be hosted by the FS he would probably take to an anemone as well, but on the other hand you may spend money on an anemone and he stick with his FS lol Either way top is a cool story about your clown. AND I was the same way when I saw mine to start hosting was more excited and happy to see that than Ive been over much else in a long time- is DEFINATELY an awesome experience to see it for the first time.

Ye I def want to get them an anemone. I really wanted a nice Rose bubble tip but heard they fade the onyx colors. I'll get something for them soon. But I will say that I've heard when they do begin to host they become pretty aggressive and sometimes like Jimmy says neveer leave so make sure whatever you would like them to host in is in a place where you can see them all the time even if they are in it. Mine is in the front of the tank dead center.

thats great jim im still hoping the corner they seem to stay all day long is where the anemone is i hope they just swim down a little and they would land in it. i had 2x other clowns before that were very aggressive and had to take them out about a hour after i put the anemone in they were in it, they must of been wild cause its like they almost knew

What happened with mine Dave is they would swim over and kinda look down as they went by but then little by little got curious, then it happened.

Top mine leave they swim around what I meant is they are always close to the section of the tank where the nem is but isnt like they wont leave the anemone, at least mine still do they just stay within a vacinity- My two arent any more aggressive towards the other tankmates they just chase them away if the others get too close to the anemone- dont hurt anyone just charge then swim back lol-- theyre really wusses the more I watch them. Theyre scared S$%^*$#$ of my radiant wrasse, I think because hes much bigger than everyone else in the tank, they dont even leave the anemone as he swims by, they just look down at him and swim in the anemone frontin lol

yea i hope mine host the anem , its just wierd cause they dont swim around the tank. i have another fish and all they do is stay in one corner, think they will ever start roaming? do you think adding more fish will help them start swiming more?

I do know that clowns will go wherever they feel secure(usually a not so open area- like corners of the tank if no nem) and hang out there mine would always before being hosted sleep at the surface of the water between my heater and my overflow box<- yes I have a heater in my display lol they slept there before I had a chance to move it to the sump so I didnt want to take their sleep spot away-- or they would sleep on top of my magfloat but basically near the surface. I would guess yours just feel secure and safe there and think adding more fish just to make em swim around more may stress them a little? I mean if the fish you add move in or try to move in on their "territory"? Give em time you never know you may go to work one day and come home to find them in the anemone.

Also when mine were awake they would always hug the glass panels and hang out in the corner for a few then swim back across the panel- never explore the tank until they were in the nem now they explore around a bit. Hopefully theyll start being hosted before long. Even if they dont they may change their patterns after a while.
