How do you guys keep snails off your MP40?

I just got a MP40 and have it set to Reef crest. every morning I have to rescue snails that are on it. any suggestions?

it should come with a black filterpad looking thing that fits right around it. however you have to remember to rinse that out as food/debris get trapped in there.
