saturday i went home on my lunch break to feed the fish when the garage door didnt open, right then and there i knew what it was lol. i run upstairs to the tank and start moving the water around with my hand and splashing to add air as well. after ten minutes of that my girl friend arrives and takes over when i run to home depot and buy a 4.3 hp Generator. i didnt know how long the power was going to be out for but i knew with my new bigger tank on the way it would be a needed saftey measure down the line.

It was a good thing i bought the generator, there are five trees down on my road alone on top of powerlines that still arent even being attended to as of yet. the power company states that i will not have power till thursday most likley. There are 500 trees on power lines with 16,000 people in greenwich that have no power.

so im held up in a hotel in stamford going back every 6 -7 hours to top off the gas tank.:smash:

check out what the storm even did to whole foods.

wow!!!!!
how long was the tank off before you got home?
Did you lose anything?

my mother said she was home a little before noon and the power was on and i got there at about 2:15 so it was off for the most 2 hours. i consider myself lucky i didnt go home at the usual time(noon) because then i wouldnt have found out till 5pm when i get off, 5 hours later and then that could have resulted in die off.

another problem did present itself though, i had been using a 100w heater on a 50 breeder. the heater was not able to keep up with a 54degree room and i had to add another heater to get the temp back up and it took a easy 6 hours to get back to 78. the only deffinat death was of a hermit crab. Some coral did look like it wasnt going to make it but ending up being fine. the lowest the temperature got was 69 degrees and i was freaking out to say the least haha.

and i just got back from filling the generator up at 1:30am so i wouldnt have to go back till 9:30am haha.
talk about a nerve racking hobby lol i was up till 5 am the night the power went out watching the temp slowly rise watching to see if i could see any change until i couldnt watch anymore and went to sleep. wow!

If you are still out of power you could try insulating your tank. It would help retain heat.
deffinatly will check into that last night even with the second heater the temp dropped back down again to 73

Are you able to 'seal up' that reef room, so an electric space heater could warm the room up? Your generator should be able to handle that.
nope its up on a loft

thanks for the input guys.
