I've been getting a lot of inquiries about what besides the trading and selling of corals goes on at an MR frag swap. Well, among many other fun and educational activities, we work hard to bring you two of the very best speakers in the hobby at every event. This year is no exception as we will be presenting two outstanding talks that should prove to be of practical benefit for all hobbyists.

Confused by all this talk about LED lighting? Well, who better to make sense of it than the industry's leading authority on reef lighting-- Sanjay Joshi's talk is a must for anyone considering making the foray into this exciting, new technology.

For the first time ever, Manhattan Reefs is very proud to bring you reef-keeping wisdom from overseas. Simon Garratt all the way from the Untied Kingdom will cover in detail all the things you need to know to make your reef tank a successful one.

You've read all the constructive and insightful posts by both of these impressive authorities. Now you have the chance to hear them in person, ask them your questions and spend some time casually chatting and getting to know them in person. To me, that prospect is every bit as exciting as finding that next dream chalice frag.

I am very much looking forward to seeing you all there.

Randy

LED Basics and Comparison with other Lighting Technologies

The Successful Reef Tank
By Simon Garratt (UK)

This talk takes an in-depth look at what makes and breaks a system, and how to get the best from our boxes of salty water. This presentation runs through all the major aspects of husbandry, from understanding environmental factors and biology, to testing procedures and long term diagnosis/prevention. It covers a bit of everything, from understanding base links in chemistry (what is linked to what) through to biology and adaptability relative to both chemistry, photo saturation, feeding and hydrodynamics.

Simon Garratt has been keeping reefs and fish only setups since he was around 12yrs old. He writes articles for UK Magazines like Ultramarine magazine, and various online sources, and is a frequent presenter at hobbyist events around the UK. Currently, he is growing out a new 490 gallon in wall Maldivian theme set up, experimenting with a high proportion of fake/home grown live rock and various other innovative designs. When he is not reefing he is likely out touring the countryside on his motorcycle.
