Picked up a MP10 yesterday at the swap for my 28gal. I would like to thank Russ from Saltwater critters for the pump and a few other things i picked up from him. This pump is amazing! I was just curious in knowing what setting do most of you keep it on? Is reef crest or lagoon random a more nature ocean setting?

Reef Crest has a wider range of wave motions and as Randy said it hits harder. Lagoon actually outputs more in terms of gallon movement over a period of 24 hours but it is much more gentle and calm in flow.

I use reef crest and every so often I use full wave motion with very short pulses to move detritus and stuff.

I've got an MP40, but the answer's still applicable. I use reef crest more, because it gives more interesting, turbulent movement, and because the periods of high water movement are shorter. I like giving my tank a good, regular blast of flow, but some of my corals wouldn't be too happy with that if it went on for an extended period.

If you just have a lot of fuzzy sticks, lagoon mode works just as well and is slightly quieter in operation.

I also like to get a standing wave going with short-pulse mode a little while after feeding to kick up food that's settled into crevices or whatever.
