I have a clam which latched itself onto a rock in a particularly annoying way. I would like to relocate it so that it's attached to a frag disk or piece of tile, but I'm not sure how to detach it from the rock.

My instincts tell me to annoy it for a bit until it clams up as much as possible, and then carefully scrape the byssal threads off where it attaches to the rock with a scalpel.

Is this the right thing to do, or is there a better method?
