Anything that isn't getting light. As it grows dense just make sure all of it gets light, whatever isn't thats what you trim. If it isn't photosynthesizing, it isn't providing any benefit.

so how do i make sure it all gets light, just take it out and like "rip" it apart? not literally, just make it less dense? when i bought i just threw it in my wet/dry and it just sits there, i got it for pods more than a nutrient export. but now im interested in macros so i feel i should know these things lol.
I let it grow till it covers the top of my refuge. Once a month or so, i take it all out and clean it. I just run it under fresh water int he sink to get all the 'crap' out of it'
Matthew you rinse your cheato? If I read it right.....Why would you do that your cheato is where all the pods hang out and live wouldnt you rinsing itout just kill the idea of having it partially? I know we mainly use it for denitrification but its also where the pods live in their"sanctuary" aka refugium.
Fish I personally wait until mine has grown enough to be pretty much growing above the water surface and then I weed a bunch of it out. You just pull it like trying to loosen it in a way and then tear off sections. When your going to do it post a thread and each time just reply on it you got more- people are always looking for it.
