Your fuge is for the red slime(cyano) and all the nastys to collect so it doesnt go into your display. All the pods and bacterias in there feed off the dirty water, if you stir up the nasty stuff youll increase the chances of the stuff you dont want in the display tank getting in there. I would not clean the glass. Just let the stuff as they establish themselves in there feed off of it. Your macro algae should start taking care of the nitrates and such.

Also be careful with the caleurpa should google it sometime and see some downsides, also make sure you when pruning dont let the grapes or any part of it get to your display- is hard to do but be diligent with it and youll be fine.

You can certainly add snails -- I personally suggest trochus, and ceriths if you have a sandbed, and a couple of those golfball sized mexican turbos for GHA outbreaks in your DT. (They're great at knocking down GHA, but they're also great at knocking down all your frags and rockwork, so I keep mine imprisoned safely in my fuge until they're needed. ;)) If you want shrimp to produce eggs for the DT, and generally pick off stray bits of food, I'd suggest a bunch of cheapass grass shrimp -- or you could go with cleaners or peppermints, but you can't beat ten-for-a-buck grass shrimp if you don't care that they're not flashy.

Frankly, though, I don't bother cleaning the glass, but I don't have a display fuge. My trochus however seem to be producing more trochus down there, so that's all good.
