Help: Can't Get stain out Glass

I just found out that the front glass seems to be cover with some kind of dirt or stain that make it look fog up or dust up.. I don't know what it is but I can't seem to clean it. I tried using a razor blade, brush, cloths, and even try to use my nail to see if it clean it a little..

I didn't noticed it until I put my light on yesterday late night. I turn on my lighting and I can see that the whole front is cover and just the bottom 2" is clear.. I think I have to use some kind of chemical glasss cleaning..

Do anybody know what I could try to use, or have any clue as to what it might be?

I know I have to take the tank down again!!!! I just feel very down now....

Strange, a fellow reefer I know had the same problem.
I think he got the stain out by carefully scraping w/ a hand held razor blade in the tank. I don't think a razor attached scraper worked for him.
I know it took a while.....

Hope you get it out.

I think I know what your talking about. My 10g has a line striaght across the middle, did you notice it?? If you did is that the same stuff??

It is inside, I used a razor and press very hard and it doesn't seem to clear up..

There is some dot on the top that is clear..

Here is a pic of it that show the most obvious problem. You can see the stain on the upper left to the right top portion.

i have that on my turtle tank. i think. i've found that if you are diligent with a razor blade you can get it off. it takes time though and you must apply alot of pressure.

Looks ot me like carbonate precipitate - are you dosing b-ionic? if so, you get that when it is added and comes into contact with the glass - if it's a reactor, same thing, make it flow away from the glass

Jim, I'm not using any of them. no dosing, no ca reactor yet. does carbonate precipitate stick on the glass that good? It look like it had bonded with the glass.

Trust me when I say I tried using a razor blade to scrape it off.

I would say CLR would remove it, but don't now if it will leave a residue that will harm the inhabitants. If you just filled that tank, the water should be able to soften it up for a razor blade.

jim - i didn't know what it was called but that's how it got crusted onto my turtle tank. where the flow from the filter would hit the glass. ctx - i have managed to get some of it off with a blade (haven't done all of it yet) but the tank was dry when i did it. didn't work too well when the glass was wet.

Looks like calcium deposits. what is your PH and did this started after a large water change?

had the exact same problem with my 65g. like everyone else said, a razor and time will do the trick.

After many days of trying to clear this thing out, I have ran out of ideas.

I had tried a vinegar dip with no result. I even tried the very harmful acid, muriatic acid bath on the tank and the the god damn thing is still there!!

I can say this deposit is staying for good I guess. Now I need to either buy a new tank or I just have to deal with this in the tank..

I cursing the person that sold me the tank !!!

As a last ditch effort I'd use an acrylic polishing pad on a strong magnet(finishing grade) it may do something.
Just an idea.

Do you think those scatch removing that they sell for glass might help? I think I am going to try that.. Now I need to find some locals, quick. As I have all my corals on a bucket and need to get this ready asap.
