I'm going to setup my chiller and have the following questions:

1) Was wondering does the chiller come before the return pump or after...

2) Can the return pump be used to push the water or pull the water thru the chiller without using another pump...currently using a mag 9 for return to tank about 4ft above sump.

Thanks!

1- some people have the return from the chiller go directly into the DT. I wasn't comfortable with that set up and had mine return it's cooler water to the last compartment in my sump where the DT return pump was so that it could mix with a little tank water before going back to the DT.

2- It all depends on the requirements for your chiller. Each chiller needs X amount of flow so that it will run properly. You need to find out what that flow rate is first.
IF you have an especially strong return pump and can set up a manifold to work both the chiller & be enough for the return, you'd be good to go.

+1 what kathy said

the mag 9 is probably a little much for the chiller. too fast of a flow through the chiller and it won't cool properly...i think it has something to do with the amount of time the water run past the coil.
if you can run a separate mag 5 with a valve on it, it's probably be better for your tank(you're talking about your 75...right?). and i would run the chiller return back to the sump as kathy mentioned.:wink1:

Mag 9 will probably be too much flow. What is the recommended flow for you chiller? I run mine through the return put directly into the DT. I've had no problems... But my tank is 150 gallons so there is more room for error.

1/10 is kinda small for a 75....but i guess it's better than nothing. i would go with a mag 3 or a mag 5 with a valve on it. the slower the better in this case...cause 1/10 is really small so longer contact time is better....imo.
lmk if you want me to come help you hook it up.
