Remove the fitting. Did you run all of the test on your water? You should remove the metal clamps. But I dont think the rust was the problem. You should test for copper to be sure that was the problem.

Wow. So I have two phosban reactors on my tank. I have a copper/or brass looking tee splitter that directs water from the pump to both of the reactors. I installed this tee splitter the exact same day that I added the carbon in the new reactor. There is green stuff accumulating around the edges of the splitter. Could this be an issue?

So I am going to add a poly filter pad. What color should it turn if there are metals in the water? Will these filter pads be sufficient to remove all metals in the water? Will large water changes over the next few weeks be sufficient to remove all of the metals?

This is what you are looking for and the instructions on the package tell you about the colors:

I'd get a few, always good to have on hand.

Not necessarily. It would also help if you got a copper test kit to see how much of it is in the tank.

Water changes will also help to a degree, and so will changing the carbon as it does absorb impurities.

Thanks I purchased a pvc tee from home depot yesterday.

So I have had the poly filter pad in my tank for about 24 hours now and it has turned orange. The package says that this means it is removing iron. How long should I leave this pad in the water for before replacing it? Is there a way to clean it or will I have to buy a new one?
