I have a reef octopus and I like them, I have heard alot of good things about the vertex in, although a lot of people are selling theirs for some reason. The smaller ASM's I heard have problems with seals leaking.

well i been doing a real lot of reading on skimmers on here and everyone that owns one of them said they had good reasons to like them. the price range is under 300 for all of them too. i wanted to spend 2-300 on one. all these brands seem to had good replys so i wanted to see what people thought on these before i just bought one and end up finding out something is better.

i had the tunze running on my 180 it worked like a horse but i upgrade my system to 550 gallons its just to small now but on a smaller tank as long as you feed heavy you probably would be alright but if you go with something else the super reef octopuss is the best for the buck i love mine

vertex in 80 or a euroreef rs 80

+1.
However, "Reef Octopus" isn't a specific poll answer, really.. It's a brand and there are many different skimmers you could buy. Some are great (so I've heard), and some aren't so great.

Also, take a look at the Bubble Magus (not magnus, like so many people call them for some reason, lol) NAC7 and also the SWC 120 Cone. (They're tough to find though..)

I think someone mentioned that a lot of people are selling their Vertex skimmers... I have only seen 2 for sale in the past few months on this site, (one of them is mine) and I'm only selling because it's too big for my tank/bioload.

Wow... for $200-$300 you could probably get two or three of them used and see which you like best!
