Marrone, Thanks for the link. I might try building my own skimmer just to see how that works out. If it doesnt work out good then I will have to purchase one.

Good news I think i may finnally be able to get a sump. Woo HOo.

Hey Angel, So far the tank is doing way better than any previous reef that ive had. The system remains fishless. Today I was tempted to buy a pair of black percs for $50 but I held off cuase i didnt want my levels to get out of wack. See ya tmrw.

I don't know about that Rich. I used a SR2 sump Bak Pak on a 55g only cause it came with the used setup in a shoebox sized sump and after I ripped the Rio 600 off of it and replaced it with a MJ1200 venturi version, it skimmed a cup a week of dark, smelly skimmate.

But your right, if you can go with a better skimmer, go for it!

Kris I dont have any fish in my tank and I get a dark color skimmate. I guess it from 2 years of having fish and the waste is stored in my sanbed and rock. In general a system with no fish would produce less skimmate than one with fish. the color of the skimmate really depends on the setting of the skimmer i.e. on the aqua c remora you can raise and lower the collection cup. Lowering the cup will give you a wetter lighter colored foam. raising it will give you a drier darker foam.

It's been a while since I lasted posted in this thread. I got an old Berlin airlift skimmer working for the meanwhile, just cause I had it laying around from my "not knowing any better" days. It gets me about 1/2 cup of skimmate every few days.

The algae that used to be on my back glass is now going away and coralline is starting to grow on the glass and on the tufa rock. It's slighty noticable now. All corals are doing good too.

I have a question. I have this really really small tomatoe clown in my 29 Fish only tank. This guy is probably a little less than an inch. I want to put him into the 55 gallon but I'm scared to do it. Will this affect my levels with the feedings and all? Because once that guy goes in he can never come out beucase its gonna be impossible for me to catch him with all the caves. Do you guys think this is a good fish to put into the tank or should i get another fish?

Thanks
Kris

I have a pair of tomatoes. From my experience, I would advise against it. They're mean as hell, and they always make a mess by flapping their tails on the sandbed.

Thats looks cool. I'm still trying to figure out how exactly these skimmers work. Sad to say that I still dont have a sump. If it were to be a hang on back type skimmer I only have about 4 inches of clearance in the back of my tank. LMK.

Hey Spykes, where do you get the supplies for your skimmers? That one looks pretty professional and I bet you have a bunch more of these.
