I really liked the colors of these LPS so I bid on them and won more than I expected. But I would like to know if I got my moneys worth or just got carried away. They are in the 2-3 inches size range.

Simple. Tell me what you would pay for i. Then I can take the average and assume that would be a fair price. That way I will know if I got taken and I don't have to let everyone know how foolish I was.
Everyone will have different opinions on the value of the coral. What matters is if YOU like them, the price you payed shouldn't matter as long as you are happy with the pieces.

basiab,I've seen this before ,you're not going to get any where trust me.They are pretty indeed but because of the sizes i think $150-$180 is on the high side for all three.

Wll, we finally have someone brave enough to state an opinion. Thanks.
And yes it is always a matter of opinion and most of these type threads get nowhere but thought I would try. Like if someone bought a similar one recently at an LFS and paid a given amount he could then state that is what he felt it was worth. The problem with ebay is you really don't get to see it even if it is WYSWYG. Plus you can convince youself to go a little higher. Plus the shipping.

I have to agree with Lenny here. There is no real "fair market value" for corals. It is all about if you think it is worth it. Just look at the $300 chips of a chalice frag, or the $50 polyp of zoanthids. There is no real reason behind the pricing other than the fact that the market will pay it. So if you are happy with what you got then it was a good deal.

In fact, if you bought it at an auction on ebay than that is what the fair market value of them is right now. So yes, you got the absolutely perfect deal on these corals. You didn't pay a cent more or less than they are worth ;)

Since even I feel like that was a wussy answer, here is what I would pay for them off the internet (without shipping)....

1. $50-70
2. $50-70
3. $0 (I don't like it that much and the skeleton looks like it is poking through the flesh)

I didn't notice that until after I bid. I wonder what the chances are of it recovering.

It's a Lobo and if your tank is good it should recover, at worst it will stay the same.

The Seller you purchased from on ebay start his auctions at higher prices than others on ebay, so if you got it for a little over his starting price, $5-$20 or so, you should be ok. Since you won 3 auctions the shipping can be spread over 3 corals, which adds on about $15 to each coral. So unless you paid a lot over the start price you should be ok.

As for the prices, the first is a Trach Brain which should be around $40. The second is a Welsy which can go anywhere from $50-$100, the high end of that scale is what you'll see at LFS, especially that color which has been around at a number of places, including ebay. The Lobo, with the damage, is probably a $20 coral. If it wasn't damage it would be probably be about $35-$40.

Well looking at ebay it seems the corals in the pictures went for the following:

1- $35
2- $24.50
3- $24
The Wellsy for $40($24.50 + $15) is a steal. The Trach at $50($35+$15) is about right. The Lobo at $39($24+$15) is probably too much.

So even with the $45 in shipping you did pretty well. Also both of the brains are going to open a lot larger than 2"-3".

S, you did good!:)

The one which you see some of it's skeleton may very well recover totally.;) My trachy was in a similar situation (not as bad), and it has fully recovered.

The red and blue is a tracyphyllia, I think, and it gets to six inches in my tank. The worm, not sure what it really is, also blows up to about 5 inches and 3 inches high.
I got one more piece(in second picture), a cynarina, and it also has its skeleton sticking thru. It is to the left of the worm brain. To the right is the one everyone noticed with the skeleton sticking out. They say it is a lobo, I am not sure.

With shipping they cost me $180. So it will depend on whether the 2 problem ones make it or not as to whether I got my moneys worth. The problem I found with ebay is that once I won what I really wanted, I bid on others just to reduce the shipping cost per piece.
