Emperor Angel

My Emperor angel has white crap all over it,ich but looks a little different than the normal,I feed withgarlic,added a UV serilizer and all.any ideas before I lose him?

If he's eating currently and behaving normally... best thing you can do is chill out and watch him closely.

Setup a hospital tank and move him into it. If it's ich you want to start treating either with Copper or Hypos. If it's marine velvet you need to treat with Copper.

It eatswithout a problem,does a little scratching ,I've added ich out I think its calld for 2 days now

I dnt have a pic,but they look like blotchs and ich,he's about 5 inchs and I dnt have a hospital tank running

Just make a fresh batch of water and add a power head ?I have extra tanks available,what's a good brand of copper to get and u think like petsmart would have it?

I agree with the posts...and, from what you say about "blotches and ick" it does sound like a contemporaneous ick and velvet problem. That's exactly how my Emperor looked at the time when I had both infecting my fish. Copper will resolve it and it you do it right away, you'd more than likely save the fish. I've had repeated bouts with both at the same time and the only way I was able to finally beat it completely is to have copper in my FO. I use Copper Safe in strict accordance with the instructions and it works perfectly for me.

I just bought coppersafe,I have a FOwlr tank,should I dose the tank or set a tank up asap?thanks for the help

So long as you are aware that you should never use the live rock in your tank for a reef and never even give it away or sell it to anyone without making them fully aware that the rock comes from a tank that was treated with copper, you can put the Copper Safe right into the tank. Be sure to follow the directions that are with the Copper Safe very strictly. And, when you remove water for water changes, if you want to maintain the level of copper, be certain to add only the amount of Copper Safe in proportion to the water change. I got a copper test kit and maintain the copper level at .25. I've read that copper test kits are generally unreliable but the one that I got (API) is consistent when I test before and after water changes so I'm confident that I am aware of what's going on in my FOWLR copper-wise all the time.

that is not ich! its linfosyst it wiil go away! water changes helps a lot !copper will not work do not use it as emperor angel suffer from HLLE (head lateral line errotion) a very good diet also importamt!! dont forget water changees give it about two weeks! good lock and yes post up dates of it

petraio might be seeing something that we haven't identified. IF the pathology that you see on your Emperor Angel is raised whitish growths of undefined and irregular shapes then ick and velvet might well not be the problem. But, again, the use of the words "blotches and ick" suggest very strongly to me that it is, indeed, ick and velvet but the photo really isn't terribly helpful. My Emperator did show what I would definitely call "blotches" when it was infected with the velvet parasites.

If your water quality isn't great your angels will get all sotrs of infection linphosyst and more from that pic you can not tell if the fish has ich or velvet the bloches are way too big for ich and velvet you treating your fishes with wrong medication is just a lost of money and fish health !! If you have also ich or velvet which it doesn't happen usually together with linphosyst! You will need copper medication but keep your ph not too high as the medication would have less effect, take longer to treat it, and again emperor will get HLLE ! Again good luck and get some fresh clams open them and feed him very other day

I'm not sure what linfosyst is but I think you mean Lymphocystis - Cauliflower Disease.Either way you really can't tell from the picture but Lymphocystis is a lot way different from ich or marine velvet and you normally wouldn't mistake one for the other. The discoloration that the fish is showing is also because it's infected with a parasite. It's very common for a fish that is infected to lose its color or look blotchy.

Very important, you want to use a good copper, not some garbage this is so call "reef safe", those things never work. Also you need to get a good test kits and keep the level at .25, anything less isn't going to work. The test out there work very well but can be hard to read, you also need to make sure the test kits that you're going to use will work with the copper you're using, some test kits don't give correct readings and some wouldn't even register the copper at all.
