FEW QUESTIONS:
1)will it affect your tank if you stop or take turns putting in carbon every other month?
2)how often do people change their carbon?
3)What do people here use for car a media bag or a reactor?

Here's a good write up on carbon use in a reef tank

http://joejaworski.wordpress.com/2008/05/09/does-a-reef-tank-need-carbon/

You won't see the effects of not running carbon for a month or two if you stop, and it always starts with the lagoon-y smell at low tide. The yellowish/not clear tank water your not gonna notice untill you add carbon and hit yourself over the head for not using it. :smash:
If your tank has a place where water passes through the bag and not over and around it it should be fine. Otherwise use a reactor.

But the rule of thumb is that you should always use a reactor, bags really reduce the efficiency, unless of course the reactor is bigger than the actual water volume =P

Everyones gonna say chemipure which gets expensive for larger tanks, kent marine or two little fishies hydrocarbon, ESV or the bulk reef supply stuff which is the best bang for your buck.

Running carbon in a media bag is running it passively (as Tosiek eluded to). Water will always seek the path of least resistance. A media bag filled with carbon (or any other media for that matter) is an obstruction. Water 'wants' to go around it.

Running carbon in a reactor is running it actively. The water has no other place to go other than directly through the media. Much more efficient this way.

+1

I run BRS carbon 24/7 and replace every two weeks.
