So I'm in the middle of a tank move and have my fish/corals in a temporary holding tank. The last two days been so hot I have my fan on a timer to go off to keep the water cooler. Without the fan the tank temp is about 89deg, w/ the fan on its about 81 deg during the day and at night around 77 deg.

Im not sure what it is, but the heat has made a few of my zoas colonies melted already, just lost a colony of nightmares and 5color rainbows and green armagedons. Im pist.

This spring/summer has been a killer. Constant mid 80's with high humidity will keep even basements to warm for tanks without chillers.
My chiller was exhausting so much hot air that it was just a vicious cycle between chiller and ambient room temperature so I went out to get a portable AC yesterday. 8000 BTU unit cannot even keep a 170 sq feet fish room in the basement below 80 degrees while constantly on.
My mistake was not to realize all the heat emitting equipment and that you need to oversize quite a bit on portable ACs for that purpose.

this summer has indeed been brutal. I just keep my ac at 75 and let it run all day. The jury is still out on whether or not this is cheaper than running the chiller during the day + ac when I am home at night.

Just got a new 10000 btu ac - I say its cheaper to run AC (usually on from 11am to 8 pm), then have my chiller running all the time.

At least I am cool also - not just my fish LOL
