Poor mans chiller

guys with high temps can try large ziploc bags with ice in the sump to lower the temps but double bag the ice so it wont leak out.

I'd avoid using ziplocks, instead use 2 liter bottles of soda. They seal much better and hold more as well.
If your tank is smaller, use 1 liters or small plastic bottles of water which are iced up. They may deform a bit from ice freezing since ice expands, so don't refreeze too many times or use caution.

77 the AC went out yeaterday thank god I have a chiller I was sweating last night and it was hard to sleep but the tank was HAPPY!! Fixed the AC today and the house temp is comming down again!!

Hit 83 with chiller only because coned is restricting the juice in our area so I had to adjust the temp a tad to compensate.same with the AC

My tank is at 74. God I love my chiller. Don't for get the higher your water temperature is,the less dissovled oxygen it holds.:tongueani

1)LED lighted system without any cooling device 80F

2)T5, PC lighted system 73.5F constant with chiller and reversed lighting scheme(light on when the sun goes down and light down when the sun comes up)

Both are in the same fish room thus the chiller exhaust of the T5/PC system may have warmed the LED system a bit.

I noticed evaporation is VERY high.

I set all my ac to economy mode and turn the temperature setting 2F higher to save on energy use to help fight the brown/black out possibility. I also switched to use my laundry machine and dryer only at night these couple days.

temp in my tank is a little high , today i checked and got a little nervous , my temp was reading.on the sticker thing i have on the side of the tank, i felt the water and felt very warm. today i have to do put the water bottle with ice. and yesterday was hotter than today. i had a reading of 84.

6" fan running across my light, ac set to 75 tank hasn't gone above 76.5 no chiller.

as for a ghetto chiller i have 2 -1 gallon plastic bottles in the freezer for when the ac isnt on usually in the spring or fall i put one in the top off bucket and one in the sump and keeps things nice and stable

if your sticker reading is 84F, your water is probably higher therefore, you should consider shutdown all your tank lights. Corals without light for couple days will not die.

When ambient temperature is getting lower you can consider reverse daylighting lighting scheme so that tank lights turn on when the ambient is lower at night.

84 last night and the A/C wouldn't stop cranking to maintain 79....

On my tank, I will turn on A/C if tank temps go to 84 degrees. At that point, chiller should have kicked in at 83 degrees and is fighting the heat and the other tank with fan, is losing the battle.

In my office, the losing battle begins when the room gets to 90 degrees or so.
At least with this heat, I have tested when the cooling becomes ineffective with chiller and fan.

My fan is keeping my temp at 78 and I'm going through about 1.5g of top off water per day on my Solana. I do have a chiller and it was worth the money for peace of mind but I don't think I've needed it yet.

In my area of Brooklyn some people have reported line voltages in the high 90s. I have no plan for a power outage.

79, no chiller but my sump & fuge are in the basement. LED's are making a 3-4 degree difference from last year - house a/c is holding steady at ab 80.
