Keeping the tank cool on a hot day

I just wonder have any reefer try to put ice cube block (RO water) in the sump to keep the temp cool without having to running the chiller on a really hot day. Is it safe to do that? Will anything will spike up? I alway set my chiller at 82 degrees but with all the hot day that we having it been running alot. I have a 72" T-5 lighting, at mid day that when the temp pass 82 degree. I was thinking about doing that just to cool it down a couple degrees without having to run a chiller but need some opinion from all of you. Let me know what you guy think. Thanks

Why don't you freeze up the water in a fish bag or something and float the bag?

this is what i do, and it melts slower, so the temp wont drop but kinda coast to a lower temp. this way u dont shock everyone.

Great idea, I bought some blue ice packs for this purpose but I can see the bottle working better.

I have used the water bottle method but usually on a really hot day it melts fairly quick. If you are planning to go this route, I suggest you freeze a few bottles for back-up.

in my pico i have some of those colorful fake ice cubes floating in a bag and i just switch them often.
