I've been fighting phosphates for a while now, and I can see it in my tank as green and red slime algae. However, my phosphates from my tank read as 0.
I do weekly 40% water changes (my display is a 50) and I BARELY feed. I feed maybe twice a week. So with these habits I assumed that my tank should be fine. Plus, I run a refuge with chaeto, mangroves, few pieces of fern caulerpa.
I tested my water in my storage bucket, fresh from rodi, and from tank
Phosphates in my tank were 0.
Phosphates from my RODI attached to sink and storage bucket were .50 ppm!
I tested with a TDS meter, and fresh RODI water just made came with 7 ppm
and the water in the bucket had 34 ppm.
I haven't tested freshly made saltwater (Instant Ocean) but if the problem is my water source then there's no need to test that I assume.
My RODI unit is from melev's reef. the three part 100gpd unit. Looks like I'll have to replace them all.
How bad is 7 ppm coming from rodi?
