the red part is the root so you keep that in water, dont dunk the whole thing in water. the tops half to be in the air. I was confused at first too so don't worry you aren't the only one haha.

I just got mangroves from reefcleaners.org and I have the following (stupid) question: there is a little stick-like projection - is that the root?

you know when they say if you have a question ask it, because someone else probably has the same question

well thank you

mine have been in my fuge for about a week, i made holes in a plastic container to keep them floating with just the brown/red portion under water

i havent really seen any growth yet

I have them under the same light as my chaeto

a single flourecent flood light (4-5000k) with a large reflector
its 23W but claims output of 120W

is this ok?

Eric, get a piece of styrofoam and poke a mangrove size hole in it, then place the mangrove in the styrofoam. it will act as a floating plant pot, where the mangroves will float on top. poke the mangrove in deep enough to have enough of the root underwater. they will bloom and root in no time, don't forget the lighting already mentioned
