Breeders: Rotifer Cultures

I thought it would be nice if we had one thread for tracking who has live cultures.

Post here if you culture them so other reefers don't need to get them via mail order to start their own.

Right now I have them going and they are incredibly dense, if any breeders need a cup please PM me.

Great Idea!! Too bad you live so far away. Do you ever come out to Long Island? I been feeding my baby clowns , Reef Nutrition Rotifiers. The babies are really not growing, but they had not died .

I know someone who has a large culture and can provide a starter cup the next time you need them. They are out on LI, much closer to you than to me (Riverhead).

Why aren't the clowns eating? Are the rotifers still alive?

I don't believe the Reef Nutrition product contains live rotifers. Who can I contact to obtain the rotifers? Do you know if I can start a phytoplankton culture using DT's phyto that you can buy in the pet stores? Thanks, Josh!!

Oh, you are using Rotifeast, not their live rotifer culture. Your clownfish fry will not eat that, they have to be live.

Yes you can start a phyto culture with DTs, you just need to add some Miracle Grow and put some light on it, but it is difficult to get the phyto density very high which is why I'm just buying the rotifer feed which is about as dense as it comes. 4-5 drops of the stuff will feed a bucket of rotifers for nearly 12 hours.

I think I'm going to stop bothering culturing phyto and will buy those rotifer feed when I want to start culturing rotifers..lol

Yeah, buying the concentrated feed is much easier.

I have a ton of it if you want some. It should last another 2 months. I can't use all of it, pm me.
