Ok i have the bulkreef mag solution that I mix today. I have a 120g w/40g sump. My current mag is at 1000. I'm trying to raise it to 1350. The reef cal is telling me in order to get my mag level right, for me to add 5161.2 ml; 174.5 fl oz; 1032.2 tsp. It also tells me not to add no more than 100ppm per day. Heres my problem. How do i know when I'm at 100ppm for that day?? Also if I have to split doses. What would be the proper dose for each day?

You need to have a MG and test to see when you have reached +100 for the day. I would add, then wait an hour (at least) so it mixes in with your total volume..then add more if necessary. (sdo write down what you added and see what the increase is for future reference :)

Not sure about how BRS packages their product but the Magnesium bottle I have has the directions right on it . I would have to imagine different companies have different direcions based upon the concentration of their particular solution.

For arguments sake mine gives a ratio to add per gallon to raise the Mg by 18.2 ppm/day, so if I wanted to get to 100, I would increase the amount I am adding (by approx 5x).

Does your bottle have any info on it.

What I am using(Kent Tech M) says 1 mL (1/4 tsp) per gallon will raise it 18.3 ppm per day.
Please do NOT guess on this - you could kill your tank :(

If your bottle has no mixing forumla - CALL BRS AND ASK! :)

No mine dont. it just have the directions on how to mix the mag chloride with the mag sulfate.

I forgot to mention the answer on how to not go over 100ppm. So basically my level is at 1000. In order to get it at 1350, I would have to raise it no more that 100ppm. Meaning I would have to raise it to 1100ppm for the first day. The next day, another 100 which would equal to 1200. Then the next day another 100 which would be 1300. Then 50 for the last day.

That assumes no absorption by the system.

I would be more concered about why the system is at 1000 on the test kit. It is indicative of a larger issue IMO.

Either the test kit is wrong or something else is out of whack (ionic balance between Ca, MG and DkH)

What does the rest of the system look like test kit wise? new tank with new sand? if so, this is more than likely the culprit as the new sand will look to bind the Mg molecules coating the aragonite. Once that happens it will bounce back and level out. If it's a new system, letting nature take its course (cycle) is the best remedy.
