Should a skimmer need to be adjusted frequently to get good foam into the neck of the skimmer. what the best way to adjust it what shoud I be looking for when I adjust it sometimes I get a more wet gook in the cup the dryer the the gook the longer it takes and it dont look like its doing anything.

also the gook that collects in the neck just before the cup when you clean the cup should I clean that also or do I have to leave it so the bubbles use that to climb up on? I toy have some pictures that would help also!!

adjust once and leave alone, bubbles should be adjusted right below the neck, Some skimmers will change there volume do to water levels in the sump your pulling from. When cleaning always clean all the goo out. bubble's dont need a ladder to climb

what skimmer, what size tank and have ya checked to make nw is free of debris ?

It all depends what kind of skimmer you have. I will guess you have a in-sump skimmer. You shouldn't have to adjust it often as long as the water level in the sump is kept consistent. If you get less bubbles or the level in you skimmer is low could be caused by several different things like you just fed the tank, you put your hands in the tank to clean it, the pump needs to be cleaned. If you just fed the tank or put your hand in the tank the foam will come back on its own if not look into the water level of if the pump needs to be cleaned.

Definitely, depends on skimmer model you have. Some are much more fussy about water height and need to be adjusted more frequently, while others are mostly set and forget. Maybe need adjustment every once in a while.

An ATO, helps to keep water level consistent and can help a lot with less fussing to keep water level consistent.

So really depends on skimmer model.

My collection cup come off the body of the skimmer how high shoud the bubbles come up into the tube on the inside of the collection cup, as for a shimmer name I have know idea it came all together with the tank deal it is a china made stuff I guess its a knock off of a skimmer when I have it out I will get a picture

I set it lower because when I put food in got to much foam in the cup.
should I bring it up higher?

Let it set there for a day or too then adj a little and let set again

in the am it was making nice dry looking foam that may be the place for it to be set at I will see when I get home today!

With that last bit of help I now have a few more questions

what should the foam look like? can you post a pic!
what do you meen food with additives and how do you know what has them in them and whats best to feed I try to mix it up with frozen flake and powered food

and I never knew that your hand in the tank could affect it that much !
