sand or crushed coral for the fug

I have been thinking of adding some sand or crushed coral to my 90 gallon refuge,I have some live rock in there now but I feel like my tank would benifit from adding a substrate to the fug , I'm not sure if I should add sand or crushed coral. Whichever I chose I will add a little at a time over a few weeks any suggestion will help thanks everyone

i use crushed coral cause many things can live in it. like copepods and other things, when i look closely at the sand in my fuge u see them walking around in it.

I would assume it is the same issue as crushed coral in the tank, it catches stuff. But I have it in my tank now for about 18 months and I am very happy with it.
